Those bakelite bangles are so beautiful, is that big one real?? Don't you worry that you'll just buy a regular plastic bangle one day? Do you carry simichrome with you to test them? I love bakelite but its so expensive, You have a gorgeous collection.
Thank you! The flower one is actually a 30s or 40s carved wood clamper. It’s painted (not sure if it’s original paint), but it is bakelite era. They got creative with costume jewelry during the depression and ww2 so you will see many wood and bakelite jewelry combos.
I’ve been collecting bakelite a long while so I can just hold it and tell. I don’t use simi chrome, it damages bakelite… it is a metal polish at the end of the day. I use novus plastic polish to test it, it works for testing it and keeping you plastic polish I use it to clean my lucite jewelry and bags too.
It’s very easy to find non-expensive bakelite.. just dig… Antique malls and thrift stores have always been my lucky places. If you see baskets of bangles, search through them. Rub and sniff bakelite smells kinda like camphor.
Anyway, this why I don’t have friends. I hang out at antique stores with old people… hahah

Marlene’s credo following von Sternberg’s talented photography is evident: “When you are forced to pose for someone you have no professional confidence in, grit your teeth and try at least to appear Dietrich.”
